All in all, you seem to be really biased, and aren’t considering the play style this game was designed to encompass. You’d get bored if you realize all the characters have the same stats, thus your playthroughs do not differ. Race stats don’t really exist in vanilla, and dungeons are lazily designed. Terraria has that aspect, but the NPC interaction and usefulness is much better.

Starbound is not a town game, and was NEVER intended to be like it, therefore, that isn’t the the target audience which you seem to be debating against. Base building is just one thing, but even that gets boring after a while. That needs many views to decide that, and one view is not enough. Just because one person with a specific play style that isn’t even what the game was designed to encompass does not mean the game is good. The combat system in Starbound is just dumb. Skyrim and Fallout New Vegas are actually good games, unlike Starbound. Collecting is not really a sandbox RPG specific thing, and not everyone is into it. Colonies are really dumb because that’s partially based off RNG, and provide little reward and interaction, unlike Stardew Valley, which at least tries it. One of the lead devs of Starbound used to work as a Terraria dev, and that inspired him to make Starbound. It’s designed to be more like Terraria, but the devs fucked that up. The game is perfectly fine if you like to play it like Stardew Valley. Bounty hunting is decent for a while, but it ends up getting long, drawn out, and repetitive. The game is horribly optimized, and when you unlock recipes, it can actually crash your game. Light levels are tied to how you see them(which can fuck up implementation of night vision).

No, it’s not silly to need mods for a broken unfinished product. Finding mech parts are based off RNG, which makes the mech aspect too grindy for such little reward. The main quest is the exact same(and they don’t bother to reset the Outpost on a new character). Personally I just get bored if I’m not going around killing shit.Īlso don’t get the wrong impression, but it seems like you are advocating people to not play in an intensive style, at least nothing repetitive, which is the main issue. You seem to like to play more chill games, and modding just offers a reason for people with more intensive tastes to play. Most people that complain about it don’t really play Starbound for those reason.
